Announcing Alabama Environmental Council’s 2016 POWER-UP Award Nominations
Alabama Environmental Council is committed to meeting today’s needs for energy in a way that doesn’t compromise the ability of future individuals and communities to meet their needs. We recognize that the generation, transmission, distribution and use of electricity is in transition from higher emissions to a more carbon-constrained future, which should protect options for future generations.
With a clean, safe, affordable and sustainable energy future in mind, AEC is soliciting nominations for our first POWER-UP Alabama Conservation Awards. We are looking for awardees who have increased the generation of electric power from renewable sources, improved the energy efficiency of our homes, buildings, and industries, been part of a clean energy manufacturing industry, or even worked to enable the integration of clean energy into a reliable, resilient, and efficient electricity grid. Any project that has focused on sustainability and the implementation of clean energy solutions is eligible, including education and empowering citizens to make sustainable energy changes.
Award Criteria: The project must occur in Alabama and involve major improvements in energy performance – saving energy, resources, emissions and money – or improved energy policy. Projects may involve new construction, major renovations, and retrofits or relate to new measurement techniques for monitoring and improving energy use. Issues of interest include energy efficiency, renewable energy, innovative financing, or supportive policy decisions. Eligible projects may include but not be limited to utilities, industrial, commercial, residential, government, military, educational, and healthcare organizations, as well as businesses involved in clean energy or individuals and their partners.
Please provide the attached project information (available in either Word or PDF formats), which can include up to 4 images (photographs, plans, results, etc.). The submittal deadline is February 17, 2016. Send to Kyle Crider, Energy Project Manager, firstname.lastname@example.org who is also available for questions by email or at 205-306-5811. The nomination can be emailed or submitted on disk.
Selection will be by a committee of AEC board members and staff. Awards will be given at the 2016 POWER-UP Forum at lunch on Tuesday, February 23 in the Great Hall of Birmingham-Southern College, 900 Arkadelphia Road, Birmingham, AL 35254. The Forum is from 9:00AM-3:30PM, with optional networking and exhibits from 3:30-4:30, and an After-hours Social from 4:30-6:00 at the nearby Southern Environmental Center. Co-hosts for the event are BSC’s Southern Environmental Center and the Urban Environmental Studies Program.
Awardees will be notified in advance and will be our guests at the Forum. The press is invited, especially for the noon awards, to further honor the award recipients.
